Cookies and browser storage
Last updated: 26 September 2026
Cookies and browser storage keep sign-in working, protect shared devices and remember settings. This page covers both cookies sent with requests and information kept in your browser.
How we use storage
Sign-in and security storage supports the service you request. Other storage remembers display, chart, sound-meter and game-help choices. The application has no advertising cookies, marketing pixels or session-replay tools. Service providers can still process connection information to deliver and protect the site.
The names below help you recognise entries in your browser's site-data controls. A name ending in an identifier has a separate entry for that account or session. All entries described here are for classroom.pet; PocketBase supplies the sign-in technology.
Your choice on this browser
You can turn off remembering optional theme, chart, noise-meter and pupil welcome/help settings. This removes their saved entries and stops the app reading or saving them. Current choices may stay in memory until you leave the page. The choice applies to everyone using this browser profile on this site.
We store this choice in classpet:remember-preferences until you change it or clear site data. Sign-in, shared-device sign-out protection, requested tab accessibility settings and unsaved game activity are kept separately. Online account records are unaffected.
Cookies
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
classpet_pb_session and classpet_pb_session_id | Server-verified PocketBase sign-in and browser-session identification. These cookies cannot be read by page scripts. | Up to 8 hours per issue. Active adult sessions can renew. Pupil sessions cannot extend past their original limit. Sign-out clears the cookies once the website can receive the request. |
classpet_workspace | Selected adult account or class workspace. | Up to 12 hours. |
classpet_invitation | Retains a teacher invitation while sign-in is completed. | Up to 7 days; cleared when accepted or found invalid. |
classpet_pupil_started | Records when a pupil session began. | Up to 8 hours. |
classpet_pupil_login_result and classpet_pupil_fresh_login | Passes login feedback and a fresh-login flag to the next pupil page. | Up to 1 minute; normally removed on that next page. |
A cookie's expiry is not a promise that an account remains signed in for that long. Pupil access also depends on an authorised login window and an eight-hour session limit. Browser settings may shorten storage lifetimes.
Storage in a pupil's tab
classpet:pupil-accessibilityremembers text size and the OpenDyslexic choice. It is cleared on pupil sign-out or a fresh pupil login and is not stored in the database.classpet:pupil-pet-work:v1holds pupil/session identifiers, temporary pet needs and activity progress waiting to be saved. Sign-out attempts one final upload, then clears this data even if that upload fails. A new login does not restore an older login's unsaved progress. Saved progress is held separately in the online account.
These use session storage, normally lasting for the browser tab's session. Browser session-restore features can affect when it is discarded.
Storage that can remain after closing the browser
classpet:workspace-themeremembers the light or dark workspace.classpet:teacher-charts:…remembers chart date ranges and whether empty days are hidden.classroom-pet-noise-meter-enabledandclassroom-pet-noise-meter-sensitivityremember whether the noise meter was left on and its sensitivity. Pausing removes the enabled flag; the sensitivity remains.classpet:pupil-welcome:v1:…andclasspet:explore-help:v1:…remember welcome/help progress for a pupil identifier. They contain no check-in answers, but can remain on a shared device after sign-out or online account deletion.classpet:pending-adult-signout:…andclasspet:pending-pupil-signout:…keep a session locked across tabs and reloads while sign-out is retried. They identify the account/session, not the password or PIN. Pupil locks also use session storage as a fallback.
These local-storage entries have no automatic expiry. Optional preferences remain until changed, removed or disabled using the control above. Sign-out locks are removed when sign-out is confirmed and can remain if it fails. You can remove remaining entries through the browser's site-data settings.
Microphone controls
The optional classroom noise meter measures sound in the browser. It does not record or upload microphone audio. It starts after an adult enables it and grants browser permission. If left enabled, it can restart on returning to the classroom pet page when microphone permission is still allowed.
Pause the meter to stop it and remove its automatic-start preference. Revoke microphone permission in your browser's site controls if you do not want to grant access again. Clearing storage does not itself revoke browser microphone permission.
Control or remove storage
Use the optional-settings control above to stop their storage on this browser. You can also change settings in their controls, pause the noise meter, or use your browser's site-data settings to inspect, block and clear storage. For help, email [email protected]; there is no charge.
Sign out before clearing site data on a shared device. Clearing storage can remove unsaved activity, preferences and pending sign-out locks, but does not delete information already saved to an online account. Blocking sign-in cookies prevents account features from working. See the privacy policy for online records and deletion requests.
